WIRE (Windham Initiative for Renewable Energy)
WIRE
is a local organization
whose mission is to inspire citizens and educate students on the
benefits of renewable energy with the goal of raising awareness of
environmental issues and the need to ensure our country’s energy
independence.
WIRE’s Alpha Project,
dedicated in October 2012
in memory of
Steven Anderson,
was the installation at Windham High School of a
combination of wind and solar energy systems along with a weather
station. This initial installation serves two purposes: as a test
platform to evaluate the long-term alternative energy potential at the
high school, and as a teaching and learning tool in the Sciences. In
this latter role, the WIRE facilities are incorporated into the high
school curriculum and serve as the center for studies about energy
conservation, alternative energy, and renewable and non-renewable
resources.
The Endowment’s Capital Campaign provided WIRE with over $55,000,
sufficient funding to implement the Alpha Project. Additionally, the
Endowment assisted WIRE in applying for a New Hampshire Public Utilities
Commission grant which could provide funding for their much more
extensive second phase.
