Don Zimmer Memorial Fund

The Windham Endowment was honored to host For the Love of the Game - A Tribute to Don Zimmer on Friday November 14, 2014 at Castleton. We thank our Guest of Honor, "Soot" Zimmer, for allowing us to celebrate the life of her husband, Don, in such a public way and we thank the baseball legends in attendance, donors, volunteers, and everyone who joined us to pay tribute to Don Zimmer.

Special thanks go to our sponsors, without whose support we would not have been able to produce this special event, and extra special thanks go to our Hall of Fame sponsors, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Black Tie Limousine, and the Red Sox, for their generous support.

Our Master of Ceremonies, Bill Burt, a long-time friend of the Zimmer family and Executive Sports Editor at the Eagle-Tribune, guided us through the evening. Radio personality, author, and speaker Mike Morin brought to life all the wonderful auction items.

The night premiered a video produced by Foxís Sun Sports about Don Zimmer and created for the Zimmer family, but perhaps the best part of the evening was listening to the baseball legends in attendance share stories about their good friend, Coach Zimmer.

In recognition of his lasting impact on our town, the Endowment announced the creation of the Don Zimmer Memorial Fund, a fund whose very first donation came from our own Windham Baseball Softball League led by Dave Macary.

The Don Zimmer Memorial Fund will help children of local families-in-crisis participate in afterschool and summer recreation programs. The Windham Endowment is honored to administer this important fund that bears ZIMís name but, more importantly, carries on his legacy of generosity.

In 2015, the fund will begin providing opportunities for our children. Our goal is to fully endow the Don Zimmer Memorial Fund so that annual disbursements will continue perpetually. Your donation to the Don Zimmer Memorial Fund will help make this possible.

We will have much more to share in the near future. In the meantime, please view the WMUR video of the evening if you havenít seen it and enjoy this group picture of the Zimmer family and our celebrity guests, courtesy of photographers Scott and Gina LaScola of JSGL Photography. They took many other wonderful photos at the event, all of which are available at JSGLphotography.com to view, purchase prints, share, or download for free, thanks to their generosity.
