Windham High School Capital Campaign

A local resident has established a matching grant for the Capital Campaign’s Alternative Energy Fund in memory of Stephen O. Anderson.

Between July 20, 2010 and September 20, 2010, all gifts received by the Endowment designated for the Alternative Energy Fund (WIRE) will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to a maximum of $20,000.

If you’ve been considering making a donation to our community in support of Alternative Energy, this extraordinary matching gift will now double the effectiveness of your generous gift. Please click here to make a donation or, if you’d like more information about WIRE, please visit their website.

The opening of Windham High School has been the most significant educational event in Windham's history. Windham has always shown itself to be committed to creating excellent schools by providing educational facilities, programs, and enriched learning environments that are well above average. Windham High School continues this great tradition, providing 21st century educational opportunities for Windham students and our community.

In its first year of operation, WHS is already a resource used by many community groups and individuals and is at the heart of the town's athletic, cultural, and community lives.

In keeping with the significance of this project, the Windham Endowment for Community Advancement is raising funds through the 2010 school year to provide additional equipment and facilities not available when the school opened. Our focus is on three main areas of interest:

Through donor generosity to Fine Arts, the Endowment has already given several items to the high school. Following the gifts of instruments (a baby grand piano, a bassoon, and symphonic chimes), the Endowment presented the School Board in December 2009 with funding for an acoustical shell that will be used both in the auditorium and elsewhere in the school. The most recent gift, funding for eight lavaliere microphones, was made in February 2010. When added to the six the school already owned, this gift provided a full complement of wireless sound for stage performances.

For more information on any of these gifts, see the WHS Newsletter and articles in the media.

Going forward, in Fine Arts the Endowment would like to provide additional audio equipment and speciality lighting for the auditorium which will improve both the quality of stage performances and the ability for outside groups to use the auditorium. In the Sciences, the greenhouse project is well underway, with several community groups and companies providing seed money for the first phase of this effort. The greenhouse will enhance the science curriculum by providing hands-on experience for students in a laboratory setting. In Alternative Energy, WIRE (Windham Initiative for Renewal Energy) is taking the lead on promoting the installation of a weather station, a wind turbine, and solar panels for data collection and curriculum enhancements. All of these efforts need individual, corporate, and community support as these items were not included in the initial funding of WHS.

In recognition of donors' support, the Windham School Board has approved the display of a Founders Plaque which will list major supporters of the WHS Capital Campaign. In addition, there will be a Founders Reception to celebrate the accomplishments of the Campaign, unveil the Founders Plaque, and provide a social opportunity for looking towards the future.

The Campaign goal is $175,000. While donations of any size are welcome, donors at the following levels will be recognized on the Founders Plaque:

Platinum $20,000+
Gold $10,000 - $19,999
Silver $5,000 - $9,999
Bronze $2,500 - $4,999
Copper $1,000 - $2,499
